A selection of beautiful words and sentiments by way of cards and letters sent by Anja at Christmas-time, 2000, one month
after she had left me and returned to Germany. Yet, just a few short months later, I was to find out that these seemingly sincere assurances and
expressions of her continued devotion to me were not worth even the very paper they were written on, as I listened to her tell me that "no-one wants
you here", on my arrival in her country in an effort to see her for a short time. I will leave it to your own judgement to decide
whether hypocrisy like this is to be admired or condemned, and whether you find it disturbing that such lack of personal
honour can be found in a woman whose physical beauty is undoubtedly beyond question.

A little silver "half-heart" sent to me by Anja at Christmas-time, 1999. She had the other half for a time, but I imagine it is long since gone by now.
Perhaps burned in the same barbecue-fire on which she threatened to place my letters to her on that Sunday afternoon in July, 2001, when
I called her by phone from Melchingen, to try to see her after almost eight long months of separation. My affections and my loyalty remained
undiminished throughout
those months, but by now there was no need for her to keep up the pretence. The mask which she had worn so convincingly each time she was with me was gone, and what
lay behind it is something I hope I never see or hear again in my lifetime...
